Marilyn returns to the haunted lake of her childhood, where
violent forces - alive and dead - struggle for control.
“What is Red Spirit Lake about? On the surface, it seems fairly straight forward. Marilyn (played by the striking Amanda Collins--whatever happened to her?) has just inherited Red Spirit Lake, a piece of property with a haunting past. She thinks she got it from her aunt who died in a car crash--when in all actuality her aunt was tortured and murdered by a rich, powerful, and totally corrupt Diego Sardonia (Jürgen Straub). He wants the powers within Red Spirit Lake. Apparently, Marilyn is the descendent of a long line of witches and Red Spirit Lake is the center of their power. Marilyn has to prevent Sardonia from getting control. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Well, that’s what makes Red Spirit Lake so special, it’s not simple. Pinion has brought together some outrageous characters and given them scenarios which are truly insane. There are scenes of S&M, castration, vivid hallucinations, lots of nudity (this was shot on location in a cold, snowy woods, so it’s even more amazing Pinion got actors/actresses to run around naked in the snow), seductive spirits, cheap but effective SFX, and even a “death by fisting,” which might be a first! The subplot, involving Red Spirit Lake’s caretaking brothers, Mathias (Charles Pinion himself) and Thomas (Mark Adomaitis) not only gives the movie more depth--but it provides a nice, yet sick, twist ending. Ya gotta love Mathias, as he rambles on nonstop about how his brother and he were abducted by aliens and now know all about “the angels.” Unlike most basement budget features, the entire cast of Red Spirit Lake does a fine job. Charles Pinion should be proud of the actors/actresses he assembled for Red Spirit Lake. There are too many great performances to talk about them all--but wait until you see the demented look on dead Shelley’s (Holly Adams) face as she gets revenge on her rapist/killer (R. Kern) or Wesley (Rick Hall) running naked in the snow. Talk about getting into the swing of things. Red Spirit Lake is sexy, bloody, fun, and totally nuts. What can I say, it’s my kind of movie!
I can safely say when I compile my top-ten DVDs for the year, Red Spirit Lake will be amongst them. There are only 313 copies of Red Spirit Lake for sale, so I would suggest you immediately pick one up.
